When Will the Time Come? Localization in Technology Companies
Billions of dirhams in the technology sector in the country, and the major companies benefiting from the abundance of services, infrastructure, and numerous facilities that the country provides to them and to other sectors, companies, and industries.
The companies have hundreds, perhaps thousands, of employees, but the astonishing thing is that you do not see a single one of our citizens in the institution, nor does it have a program for caring for and developing new graduates among the citizens, despite the value of the government contracts and procurements from it, let alone the semi-governmental and private ones.
Every year, hundreds of the capable sons of the Emirates graduate in the technical and professional field, and gradually appointing them—even in marketing technical products, supporting customers and products, as well as managing government and semi-governmental accounts in particular—is a beneficial matter for the companies in the first place. These are tasks that do not require a rare and unique specialization, and even in these rare specializations there are capable ones among the sons of my country.
It is the right of institutions to appoint whomever they see fit, but the absence of any citizen in a prestigious company whose contracts are worth millions is a matter that needs change and development, for the sons of the nation are people of competence and are relied upon in various fields, and we reached space by the arms and efforts of the sons of the nation.
The flimsy excuses are many, but the companies that have embraced appointing, developing, and training citizens have discovered the difference and the extent of the positive impact on them, in terms of support, sales, and even preferences from decision-makers, and have realized the high competence enjoyed by the sons of Zayed of goodness and happiness.
A call to managers of technical departments to support, encourage, and urge the appointment of citizens in technology companies in various job fields, and to cooperate with them in this important, vital, and beneficial field.
This is not a disparagement of any nationality, nor an imposition, nor a compulsion. Rather, the proposition is to draw the companies' attention to the fact that there are opportunities and high capabilities that have many positive effects, and as a repayment for the endless and unparalleled support that the nation provides in the region.
Major technology companies have recently begun to pay attention to this matter and the positive aspects that such a decision entails, and competition has begun to appoint citizens as a primary task for them and to raise the localization percentage with them, especially in communicating with government channels, supporting them, and managing their accounts, as well as other specializations and professions.
